I purchased some of the chin strap buckles off eBay some time ago and they got the better of me today, I finally put one together using a scrap of old leather strap ( yes it’s a bit short).
These buckles appear to have been cut in a water jet cutter and have the usual cut marks that a water jut cutter leaves.
I gave them a light sand with 230 grit then 1200 grit paper, a quick Polish then threaded them onto the old strap which I think came off an old canvas rifle bag that was falling to pieces. The result is ok and the buckles look good and they were reasonably priced. When I find more suitable leather I will put a few more together to finish off some of my helmets.
