Just got a new helmet for collection and on it was this chinstrap, it has correct thickness etc. Has markings on back, which is nice and dated 1916

Was on a Baden M15

I have my opinion, but wonder what the rest of you think?

It is a reproduction, GWM stands for Great War Militaria and supplier to re-enactors.

I think it's nice when replicators mark their products accordingly, making it more difficult to be sold as originals.

Apart from that: metal on a 1916 chinstrap should have been iron, not brass; shape of eyelets incorrect; sliders look crude and too sharp compared to brass originals

Thanks for showing,

Lars

Congrats, you where the first correct answer! I wanted to post this so others can learn about this one, the seller of the helmet was adamant to me that it was real, I finally just gave up and bought the helmet, will put correct strap on.

Yes, no need to look at the back....Fake at first sight! Optic of leather, fittings and so on....A beautiful bunch of red flags

Great War Militaria is located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania which is the reason they marked these reproductions Kammersburg.

I knew they were in Chambersburg but I did not know the connection to the reproduction name. 20 years ago, there was a group of folks from the Veterans of Foreign Wars there in Chambersburg that wanted me to run for elected office. Not that I would've won but I declined. I am in a much better place here.

I have purchased from GWM in my early years of collecting. They weren't cheap but what they sold was original and I never had any problems. I would look on line at their site, phone them up, place an order and wait for the postie to deliver. I only bought small stuff though like kokarden, never a helmet. Hmmmm....Col. Joe as a politician?? You are too honest Joe, good decision, that would not have ended well.
