Hi Philippe,
Baldwin was smart to put everything in books before he passed on and he have unbelievable explanations to justify his "red flag" purchases. Publisher was also smart to put a mixture of headdress with uniforms and mess tins etc so that collectors tend to buy all volumes instead of volume just on headdress or just on uniforms. The publisher only took partial volumes to SOS so that collectors buy off their web for the rest of the volumes. Very smart business gimmick.
It has taken me a while (maybe I am not as smart LOL) to identify original and fake chinstraps. So I was a bit confused when Baldwin stated that the highlighted chinstrap is original. So much of being a collector!! I still think we ought to be honest, if it is a reproduction chinstrap, one just have to say that it's hard to get original chinstrap, so this example comes with a reproduction. I guess by now, most collectors have accepted the fact that it is not possible to get original chinstraps for all your haubes.
