Colberg Officer 1807

I am restitching a front visor on a helmet owned by a member. Here is the rare wappen from it. Few collectors will ever have the pleasure of examining one of these in hand:

I will be posting photos of the restitch in the restoration section. This wappen retains all of it's original gilt work...exceptional!

I am the lucky owner of this beauty which unfortunately arrived last week with 90% of the stitching vaporized on the front visor, something which I was unaware or it just fell apart with handling by the courier. Thankfully Brian agreed to re-stitch it for me on short notice! Very grateful for his skills and talents!

It’s the wappen for the 1. Pommersches Feldartill.-Regt. Nr. 2, 1st Batterie with the rare heraldic FRW embossing on the wappen and Colberg 1807 bandeau.

Splendid !
Are you certain of the attribution to this Regiment and this battery?? Because in Jean Louis Larcade's book it is noted: Feld Art.Rgt.3 Bat.6?
Do you have a document with the assignment of this waffen for the artillery regiments?

Hi,
According to the Bekleidungsordnung from 1903, both 1. reit. Batterie FAR Nr 2 and 6. Batterie FAR Nr 3 wore this Wappen.
Regards,
Lars

Laine Book pg 185 also denotes FAR2, 1st Batterie and FAR3 6 Batterie wore this wappen, in the sale documents (in German) it is attributed to FAR2 / 1 but also mentions FAR3 / 6 however the translation is somewhat lacking into English. So merely attributing it to the FAR2 / 1 as per the sale documents but without a unit inscription or provenance I haven't translated or properly understood, it could be FAR3 / 6 I suppose as well. Either way it is a marvellous and rare wappen and with an equally nice helmet once Brian repairs that evaporated stitching!

Congratulations! Very nice and scarce Wappen! It was used by Grenadier Regiment 9 before 1913, too.

I remember Weitze had such an artillery helmet two weeks ago.

Best wishes

It seems that the Colberg 1807 band is added on top of the artillery plates and placed lower

-AKO dd 29 April 1852: The "Colberg 1807" banderole shall be positioned above the Wappen Adler. Example in the picture.
-in 1860: the height of the helmet shell is reduced: now the ribbons and banderoles have to be placed at the bottom side of the Wappen.

Jean-Louis Larcade; Volume II. The Artillery chapter:
List of all Prussian Artillery Helmwappen: Memorial "Banderoles"-"Ribbons"
-Summary list of the 1914 Prussian Artillery WappenAdler with Banderoles/scrolls
-Conclusion: in the period of 1852 to 1914:
ONLY the 6.Fahrende Batterie of Regt Nr 3 has never been moved! In their "new" Regiments: some of the shifted Batteries were allowed to keep and wear the Wappen with the scroll...tough this never was guaranteed.

This is the wappen from that artillery helmet of Weitze. I purchased the helmet but as said the front visor stitching probably evaporated during shipping. Either way it is getting resewn by Brian (see OP). It’s a beautiful piece.
