I was wondering what I could show for 911car's 911th post, and this thing came in. A 1867 model, which most likely saw the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71.

It is a 1857 or 1860 model that was reconditioned ("aptiert"). The stitching that used to be hidden under the rear spine of the older helmet is now under the eagle:

And the holes used to attach the former cruciform basis have been plugged. So were the holes through which the former emblem was affixed: the plugs are now visible at the rear of the shell:

The helmet looks absolutely intact (nothing is missing or broken), untouched and dirty. I may have been the first one to remove the eagle:

Finally, this thing is huge. Maybe the largest Pickelhaube I have ever seen. There is something barbarian in it. Thinking of the French populations when they saw these spiked soldiers progressing down to the Loire valley...

It reminds me I forgot to post something special for my 181*th message!

Great old Haube. Love it !

Do you find extra (pluged) holes at the sideposts ?
Rgds,
Francis

Bruno,
You Lucky Guy, Glückspilz, "Enfant" de la Chance!!! :D :D :D
I saw this beautiful helmet on ebay USA at the end of April too, and I remember, the shipping price from Florida to Europe with UPS was incredibly high, more than 200 $..... :o
However, I really had to fight with myself not to bid on it....Already have purchased an expensive Haube this year and a Greece holiday :D
Nice to see now, this Colberg "Carrera" helmet is in some very good hands :bravo: A very scarce helmet in very good shape for a very attractive price!
Four old plugged holes from the M60 Kreuzblatt, two plugged holes at the back from the old original fixation of the M60 Wappen, the original seam which was under the rear brim on the M60 and a M67 rounded visor instead of the squared M60. A "Bilderbuch" helmet!
And last but not least, a M67 helmet with M60 Wappen, with screw posts and not the typical hooks of the M67 Wappen.
Ahhh those prussians, masters of saving!!! :D
Great congrats!!

Philippe

PS: I also forgot to "celebrate" my 404... 8-)

Very nice indeed! Are those signs of conversion from an earlier helmet as well?

:D Ron

Thanks much to all for your appreciation. Yes Ron, I tried in the original post to describe all those signs of conversion from an earlier 57 or 60 model, but maybe the legend did not read very well between the pictures.
To answer the other question; no, no plugged extra holes at the sideposts. Chinscales may be the only part left intact from the older model.
