Collection Seized!

I see this latest news as really bad for all collectors of anything historical. A 91-year old man has been collecting for decades and the FBI is investigating his collection - but what bothers me (as a journalist) is that the stories don't make it clear WHY the FBI is investigating. Are we at the point where you are guilty until you prove you're innocent?

I really believe part of it is also because this is a large collection and the FBI is hoping to get lucky that even one piece was obtained through dubious means, etc. This is fishing in my opinion but the man is old the FBI or someone is using this as an excuse to get their hands on these artifacts.

I think anything Native American is going to raise eyebrows , especially if it involves remains. I bet some " do-gooder" saw the collection and thinks that it should be in a museum. Unfortunately for the owner he will probably be deceased by the time this mess is adjudicated.

Unfortunately, another victim of the politics of "not politically correct". One of the truths about democracy is that the politicians usually respond to changes in public opinion. They want to surf the wave of public concern about something and get elected (providing it does not effect the rich minority) can you say "Prohibition"? We can only hope that no one ID's collecting as a source of votes and a threat to public safety.

Sad. You'd think at 91, they could have just told him to keep the collection intact pending investigation after his death. Really, is it THAT important to the US government, right now? There are some major private military collections in that area of Indiana.
