Any opinion on these pieces:

The helmet doesn't seem to be a standard pattern used by the Germans.
 
Peter, that is not a standard colonial pith helmet. Several years ago at the Max there was a massive display of colonial gear which included many helmets. This style was not present in that display. This looks like a Bombay helmet to me. Plus, the bird on the fez seems odd. Corky

The more I look at the German helmet the more I'm inclined to believe it is a French Model 1931, which was based on the Bombay pattern. This was listed on eBay.fr and these helmets are actually fairly common, just not in the United States.

I remember the MAX display. I'll see if I have a photo.
 
This is the only photo I have... alas I don't have a photo of the helmets, just the uniforms from MAX 2004. I didn't attend, but someone sent me the photo:

I have no real knowledge of these pith helmets. However, this one on ebay just does not have the right shape...too rounded. It actually on first sight reminds me of the Brit Brodie helmets from WW1. Brian
