He's been trying to sell this one for a while now but since not many people out there know what it is for sure, or simply because it's missing its visor, no one has risked it yet... I know it was discussed somewhere here before.
A similar one, only a complete Prussian example, recently sold on the Malvaux site for $600 more: http://2gm.bertrand-malvaux.com/p/12570/casque-a-pointe-troupe-d-essai-modele-1915.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The seller described it as a "CASQUE À POINTE TROUPE D'ESSAI, modèle 1915" or M1915 Trial/Test EM/OR Spike Helmet... :-k
Malvaux doesn't always have the best and most accurate descriptions but his definitely sounds more 'logical' that the eBay seller's who seems to wanna put 'Colonial' in every item he lists. His Saxon helmet is definitely not pre-1915 IMHO as it looks to have the wartime gray steel fittings, albeit quite discolored/rusty. It doesn't make it a less attractive rare piece but I don't know much about these and like we all agree here, better know what you're buying beforehand!
Did anyone notice that the eBay specimen has the (rarer) serrated Saxon EM/OR cockade?
