The adler looks weird, at least compared to this one: http://www.militaria-online.de/artikelnr_562" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't know anything about these either. Kinda looks like a bread bag (kidding). I'd imagine when the soldiers wore these they were blocked and starched to looked pretty sharp...

I'd love one of these, but honestly I don't know if it is good. I've been reading up on the Tarboosh (that's what this is called). It should have a more "solid" shape rather than looking like a bag in my opinion.

These were based on the fez. The examples I've seen in books, tobacco cards, in period photos and the odd one or two in museums suggest these are rounded on top with distinct seams so tha that the top is round and FLAT. Sometimes straw was used inside to hold the shape.

Additionally on most of the patterns I've seen the neck flap is sewn to the inside, not the outside. There are those that had the flap attach via hooks, which is the kind for sale. But the shape is odd, the examples in the books don't have a leather liner (nor would I know why this would need a leather liner as it is a cloth cap.

I'd love one... but there are so many questions with this one that I couldn't justify the price. I have to wonder if this wasn't a movie prop for a movie. These caps are worn in "Shout at the Devil" and a couple of the Young Indiana Jones TV movies.

The Pickelhauben in this flick are horrible.

Typical for the era. I think the colonial Askari uniforms are decent. I do wonder how many of those hats ended up sold as originals!
