It looks like this helmet bears the outline of a fireman's comb.
Or am I seeing things?

Gday, now im not a redneck, [ yes a yank term, im sure you understand that ] but im trying to work out what you are saying. Is it possible for you to speak in English, yes im a lumpy [ Casino slang ] [ newbie ] . Is it good or what ????????? Thanks Lyndon

Lyndon,
Many helmets are "converted" from fireman helmets often to enhance value. Look at this pic of the "comb" on top of this firehelmet. Then look at the top down view of the example. See the outline? Looks like a conversion. Hope this helps!

OK Lyndon,
It is obvious that we are going to have to get you up to speed on your language skills, it is not uncommon for posts to be written in just about any language of the globe, but the most difficult are the dialects of the English language. Mikey in France posts in rhyming Cockney slang, Chas in the colonies, posts in pig Latin, and Joe in Northern Mexico, posts in Beer. The point of this rambling (yet another type of language) is to point out that if there is anything that someone does not understand, they are doing the forum a dissirvice if they do not ask the writer to explaing their post.
Best wishes
Gus
ps "Redneck" is not a yank term, the term comes from the south, and there the term yank is a very bad insult. People around the world think people from north America are yanks, people in north America think people in the northern part of the US are yanks, people in the northern part of the US think people in the east are yanks, people in the east think people fom New England (north eastern extreme part of US) are yanks and people from New Engand think people from Boston are yanks. Needless to say, there is only a small region where yank is considered a positive term.

Im sure I didnt offend anyone but if I did im sorry, where I come from your all Yanks. [ said in a nice way ] We have another term for Americans here in Australia but im sure not going to use that. Yes I am aware of the history of the North and South, bit unaware of the other.

Thanks Lyndon

Hey Lyndon,
Don't worry about affending any one, we have pretty tough skins here, Now you have me wondering what the other term is, I will bet it is not as bad as the one I am imagining. Hope you have a good stay in the states, we will have to stay in touch when we go to the Show of Shows next week, I am sure we can find some of the things you need, There should be several members that are still wired when we get there and we can no doubt, drop you a line thursday evening/morning to let you know what is available. Let us know what all you are looking for, hot dam, the only thing more fun that spending money at one of these shows, is spending someone else's money.
Bes twihses

I'm a Yank living in the South. I consider both Yank and Redneck a compliment. I've adapted... but you got to love those rednecks. Corky

Gday
Im after a nice really Cammo Steel helmet, and an Officers Pickelhaube [ one that is flash ] and some parts to finish my Pickelhaube that i got on Ebay. I think I will stick with the canister that I have, unless a real good one came up cheap. The one on Ebay looks very rusty. Thanks Lyndon

Spike.

Dont really follow your question, but as far as Poms go. I have met and know a lot that are real good blokes. With that said we have nothing to do with them, nor related, nor would ever say we are a colony. Australians believe that we are that and we have a healthy love hate relationship with them. There is a saying here that all the good poms are in England and the @#*+ are here. They really do have a similar sense of humour to us, but, im afraid that after what they did to us in Gallipoli and in Singapore we really dont care much for them. If it wasnt for the USA we would all be speaking Japanese now. For all their faults and the whole world against them they do a pretty good job. My biggest problem is our flag, which has that Union Jack on it. Its not our falg at all, I have our flag on my forearm, in a tattoo, its the Southern Cross. But dont get me started on New Zealander's.

I could talk all night and day about this but im getting of the subject, thanks Lyndon

Hi Lyndon, sorry I changed my original question as I thought it may have sounded a bit esoteric.
It's just that I had an Australian girlfriend once and I lived with a bunch of Aussies in south London for a few years. They were a pretty good bunch, very laid back and generous to a fault. However I do recall on several occasions getting up and going to the bathroom in the morning to find the bath half full of water with the occupant asleep and with last nights empty beer cans floating around him. We had some good times but they all eventually returned to Oz. They were all from Melbourne. I wish I'd kept in touch with some of 'em.
You're right , the humour is similar.

Delvene and Strop were in the Hogan show. Lindsay is one of my favourite Artists bit is not well known at all at least outside Australia.

Cheers Lyndon,

Mike.

Spikey

I think you have it down pat, I have travelled quite a bit, and im sure people get the wrong impression of us, we shit stir to the extreme but are genuine and decent and will stand by anybody in a bind, till the point that we get in trouble. yes you should have kept in touch with the blokes from melbourne, they are probably well to do Lawyers now. Thanks Lyndon

Lyndon,

I am an Australian living in Perth. Its nice to hear from a fellow Aussie with a well balanced opinion (“a chip on both shoulders”). I am sure the wives and children of the 110 officers and 1,502 ratings who lost their lives on HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse, defending Singapore, may think differently to your opinion.

You will also recall there were 21,000 British and Irish troops among the dead in Gallipolli, a figure well in excess of 9,000 Australians who died during the hostilities in north-western Turkey. So I am unsure where the British plot is here?

Not many people in Western Australia subscribe to your opinion, we should really break away from the Eastern States. We remember the Australian defence strategy of WW2, in the event of a Japanese invasion. This was to abandon Darwin and Perth to the Japanese and defend the important strategic line from Sydney to Adelaide.
