Hi Joe:
Saxe Beamte officer helme. So convex scales round spike base and squared visor (in the Saxon style) are perfectly acceptable. According to my sources given to me by Randy T years ago this could be anything from a senior Military Intendant ( Quartermaster) to an Oberstapotheker (Sr. Pharmacist). Here is the decription of the Prussian Sr Paymaster and Paymaster helmets. Junior paymasters wore the helmet of their regiment. Description reads: Silver trim, round front visor, round spike base, convex scales, helmet eagle with banner and small eagle on tail. I doubt that the Saxon version was much different other than the wappen and kokarden. Brian

Brian you are right on. I should have looked this up before I opened my big fat mouth. Stubbs page 472 -- 474 is the only real reference I know of. Seems as though the convex scales were common throughout. Still it seems as though he contradicts himself on page 472. There are just not a lot of references or knowledge about these helmets. I almost got talked into buying one from Baden during the last SOS. Cooler heads prevailed and I realized I didn't know enough. Really big star though -- who knows.

Hey Joe:
Give me your address and I will gladly send you copies of the pages that Randy sent me. They are in German but I know that this is not a problem for you. They outline in very specific terms (with diagrams) all of the uniforms helmets etc worn by the many different types of Beamte officers. Cool foto! Brian
