As usual I am struggling with the writing its July 1915 he's thanking someone a lot for the things they have sent him.

I have around a 12 cards from this soldier and if I can decipher his hand writing there could be an interesting story to be told.

There are an increasing number of books appearing based on individual soldiers photo and postcard albums, which makes sense as each album is a timecapsule of the person and their loved ones experience of war.

The Germans were quite relaxed really compared to the allies on censorship, after May 1916 German censorship was centralised, but even then there were still the same things to be ignored complaints about the food, military general mostly no too specific grumblings were permitted. More direct complaints my Colonel is a incompetent **** The Kaiser has a penchant for goats would be descended on from a great height; no surprises there then.
 
Here is what I read. I‘m not sure with the Name „Reith“, because I don’t know it. But according a name research, it is also used as first name in rare cases:

Lodz, 11. Juni 1915
Lieber Reith,
schönsten Dank für Ihre
l. (liebe) Karte und den versprochenen
Brief. Damit Sie bei
der unerwartet langen Dauer
der Trennung nicht vergessen,
wie ich aussehe, bringe ich
mich hiermit in entsprechende
Erinnerung.
Nachträglich meine
besten Wünsche zu Ihrem
ersten Hochzeitstag.

Thank you I can translate this now and create a lookup table for what his words look like.
 
In other news - I'm fascinated by this guy's cap. Looks like a two-toned band, which is odd. And appears to have an officer's two-piece national cockade and a sewn-on enlisted Prussian cockade. If it turned up in an auction today, I bet we'd question its authenticity! Any idea what his unit is?
