Gabe:

Nice collection! Thanks for sharing them.

I started down that road years ago but got diverted onto other avenues and eventually sold all but a couple of them. I particularly like the ones with a cypher on the grip.

Like James, I miss them but, when you have limited means compromises have to be made.

Super looking collection Gabe, congratulations!

I've had a few that I found out of the woodwork over the many years, but I did not end up keeping any of them, unfortunately.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Can you educate, me at least, a little more about these. Every State had their own? Differences in the swords for which ranks? Just a really interesting topic!
Mark
Hi Mark, these are a big topic. There are models made for some South American countries, some are nonstandard, some have extra fancy or Gucci features. A lot of it comes down to what the soldier wanted to pay for. Sometimes, they were owned by the unit. It is kinda hard to give general rules for it based just on the appearance.

For example, Baden may not have had a specific design for these swords, but Bavaria (of course) took many liberties to made designs based on the Prussian m1889 model. There is a particular variant I am looking for and will post if I ever find it.

Plenty of pictures of sergeants with them, so it's not just commissioned officers.

I think the best book on this is "Infanterie Offizierdegen 1889 und Varianten". It is out of print, but it's a great reference. Hard to find unfortunately.

Well done, beautiful collection.
Me too, my favourites are the M89/15 probably for Offizierstellvertreter (of the Guard). Kriegsmetal, the gilding has disappeared. CIMG9108.JPG I really like my IOD89 from a Reichsgendarmerie officer.

Beautiful degans shown here so far. Here is my collection of variations. Not sure if the Curriassier is truly an 1889 model but the hilt is a similar design so I include it in my display. Looking forward to adding some of the other states and the colonial one day when the budget and luck in finding them line up.

Great collection! Love the display. That Saxon Cavalry sword looks awesome! Do you have any closeup shots of that?

Do I see some Kaiser Prizes on the right , bottom ?
Steve

Sorry for the delay and I do have to work on my photography skills.

Kaiser Prizes that I picked up earlier this year in an auction and the reason I asked on the KP thread about the Jager with no date...
