Damaged Helmet Due to bad shipping!

I wish I was posting my newest treasure but unfortunately because an eBay shipper couldn't find a better box my helmet is somewhat damaged. This is a pre-WWI Wolseley.

Man that sucks, any chance of getting your money back!

This was the ultimate no win situation for me. If I wanted to return it I would have to had paid the return shipping, which could have been $75+. I asked the seller to make a reasonable refund and that ended up being just 80 pounds - of 265 pounds. I don't think it is fair but if I didn't accept eBay would have forced me to return it, pay for the shipping and even potentially be out the shipping I paid to get the item.

I am trying to restore the helmet. I can get back in shape but the cork is of course forever cracked.

The seller is davey$ - David Howells from Shropshire.

Very sad! ](*,) ](*,)
And it is so easy to find a descent box!Or even two, put a box into a other box and thise wouldn't happen.
Just one more thing; I tought boxes like that were forbidden to be send to the US, just neutral boxes only bearing the adress of the customer and the vendor.

I agree, negative feedback. Its not that much work to pack a helmet properly before shipping it :x

Regards,

Edwin

I agree. I've probably made a loss on postage and packing against my estimates, but I always go for the 'belt and braces' option , rather than risk damage to any helmet I'm sending. Is 'belt and braces' a purely British phrase, or do you North Americans use it , too?

I've never heard it, but I can imagine what belt and 'suspenders' means (or 'shoulder straps' for aviation) and you're right. Is it an actual postal option in Scotland?

:D Ron

You've GOOD beer and ale in your beautiful country!

Initially, it looked like a very strong helmet Belgian Congo 1915-1918

I'm sorry for you

Thank you. It is actually a British helmet same era however, maybe a little earlier.

I make it like a traders mark to have parcels well packed.
The 'belt and braces' option is called in French " emballage beton" => concrete parcels
It is always appreciated by customers and it shows in theyre evaluations, here is my latest EB evaluation page.
( even the negative feedback is no blame, within the other ! ;-))

That is a real shame Peter, it looked to be in excellent condition. Undamaged for 100 years and then some idiot screws up the packaging! My condolences.
