Drawstring Question

Gday, im putting a drawstring in my Pickelhaube, I got 2 brass stips. is this the go ?????? Or sould it be leather ???

Now I was told to use these, that what I got from this supplier, but it does not look like its going to work, surely someone must have heard of this. If not someone must have some advice. Thanks Lyndon

Liner drawstring, though largely absent from many helmets, is customarily leather.
