Dreyse Zündnadelkarabiner M1857

Gents,

Here is my latest Dreyse acquisition, an M1857 Zündnadelkarabiner. This is the second M57 I have owned and by far the best I have seen. Most are either beat to hell or have been polished by European collectors to a chrome and lacquer finish. This one is razor sharp with all original surfaces and crisp markings in both metal and wood.

I am having some trouble with the regimental marking on the buttplate:

D7.E.E

Dragoner regiment 7 was Westfälischen Dragoner-Regiments Nr. 7, so that doesn't fit. Any ideas?

Nice carbine Mike, congratulations. :thumb up: :thumb up: My 1857 shows a fair amount of stock wear but is an all matching gun. Unit marked on the butt 1 D 5 62. I'd have a run at yours for Dragoon Rgt 7 Ersatz Eskadron....

I like these needle guns also, hopefully will be receiving another 62 model in the mail tomorrow. Unit marked to the 67th Rgt. I enjoy doing the regiment research on them when unit marked.
