E-bay fraud !!!

This helmet is sitting in a collector’s cabinet right now, and it is not for sale, the pictures belong to a friend of mine who sold it to him, he informed e-bay about it, but no reaction.
The seller is from Greece ,not France.

Two last pictures of the ad are the inside of a busby! It shows how much the seller knows about imperial headgear!

I don't think that there is anything that we can do from this end. This is nothing new on all parts of Ebay and that is why they have their protection policy for buyers. In addition, sellers are complaining about being ripped off by buyers. The thieves spoil everything as usual.

One important thing to remember is never accept an offer outside ebay from an ebay seller you do not know, the scammers have been able to get money out of bad items or no item by offering it to a buyer if they pay with money wire. If you pay via paypal, you do have protection. But on the other hand, if you accept a payment from paypal, it is possible for the buyer to have paypal refund their money by claiming that they did not receive the item. Paypal will normally side with the buyer. Number one rule is, "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is not"

This seller wanted a bank transfer ,once you pay and nothing arrives at your address ,you got nowhere to go for a complaint , sending a payment before you have the item is an agreement between the buyer and seller ,the law does not interfere in this.
In fact, every time you pay up ahead, you take an enormous chance.
So my advice would be, no bank transfers and always ask for additional pictures, which they cannot make if they don’t possess the item.
Don’t count on e-bay; their only worry is that you would deal outside e-bay which means no money in their wallet.

This is the reason why all my pictures have the same background; I would spot them from a mile if someone was to use them for a false sail. A name over the item can easily be photo-shopped away, but it is very hard to make a background disappear without cutting in to the shape.

Might as well be that the ebay account was hacked!
Not logical that item location would be a different country then the account.

:-k Indeed! There has been a serious hack at e-bay, after we were all asked to make a new password.

You're right! Also, it's very easy to remove a background using photoshop and layer masks. It's what the program was made to do and I clean up backgrounds on my photos all of the time with it. If you wonder about this, just send me a photo and I'll crop that puppy.

JOE! THAT IS HILARIOUS! Where's the 'like' button?

So, everybody had to change passwords, eh? Wow. That must be a HUGE headache for ebay.

I think that covers it. :thumb up:

:D Ron.

Yes the infamous Red Candy Man van! I thought the SOS had stopped Joe from handing out candy,.... something about only females being offered sweets ??

I fully agree and this topic is another reason why I am always cautious to buy expensive helmets through ebay.

...on the internet in general! It happened to me twice, when buying on a forum too.......
Know what you are buying and from who! Is the rule.

Even on a show, you can get fooled, cause there you don’t have much time to investigate the item you are about to buy.
Whenever money is involved, vultures will be there too … :evil3:

Still selling collectors’ items and eBay doesn’t do a thing!

Got a message from e-bay that this was in fact a hacked account, and actions are now being taken. :violent3:
