Rear visor stamped B.A.O. 1901, inside crown stamped with maker's mark as well. Interestingly the Wappen is larger than would be expected, it's the same size as was used on the tropenhelm.

Wow! Great Tschako. The Wappen is extraordinarily large, but I have never seen one of these so I have nothing to base this on other than a regular Prussian or Baden Tschako.
Would this Tschako have a Feldzeichen; if so, would it be red, white, and black?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, indeed there was a feldzeichen.
As they were an imperial detachment there was no national ID, rather imperial, so it was red, white, and black. I have a replica, but am keeping an eye out for an original one...

Looks great to me. Most of these helmets had the smaller sized eagle but I have seen a number of examples with the standard size as well. Out of curiosity, how is the eagle mounted to the front? I was surprised to find the smaller eagle was mounted using smaller mounting fixtures and thinner prongs. I would be interested in seeing additional photo.

Cheers
Jay
