Ehrentafel

Gus sent me a very nice book of some of the items he received during his last trip to Europe. While I have not yet begun to devour all of it I decided to share this item because it gives you a visual feel for how many people died from a small town. I know some towns lost more or less, but this is visual -- made me think. The guys on the top next to the cross above were lost during World War I. The group below were people who fought and survived.

PS and Gus did you have to use every single stamp in your stamp collection to mail this envelope?

Hey Joe,
No, I did not, but I lost count, and I think I over paid by a couple of cents.
This has been a fun project, I have posted some of the material under period photos, I am distantly related to many of the boys shown on the Ehrentafel by marrage.
Birgit's brother sent me a copy of the Ehrentafel a couple of years ago, and it helped a lot in sorting and identifying the writers of many of the cards, there were about 80 cards in the lot, all mixed and it turned out there were about 15 different writers, all sent to the same family.
You will notice there are errors and corrections, as this was a draft copy, I have sent one to the family in Germany, and I am hopeing to get a little more family information back from them, but Birgit indicated that I may know more about their family than they do at this time.
Gus
