I R Herzog Friedrich Wilhelm von Braunschweig ( Ostfriesisches ) Nr. 78
The helmet came from a show in Belgium
Here is what the seller of the helmet had to say ;
Beautiful marking of the Ostfriesisches Inf. Regt.
Prussian/Hanoverian 78th “Waterloo” Infantry Regiment Enlisted Man Model 1895. Fine untouched helmet. Black lacquered leather helmet with brass trim. Helmet body in excellent to near mint shape with firm stitching. NO extra holes in helmet body and the plate fits to a perfect fit. Original leather pieces still present. We did NOT try to remove. Interior black dyed leather liner is complete and still supple. Inside back visor is stamped “I B” and "4 C".
Inside the top bell of the helmet are the Regimental markings in white paint "O.J.R. 78" and dated "1899". That marking means Ostfriesisches Infantry Regt. 78. The helmet front plate is the Line Prussian Eagle with the banner “Waterloo” for their service at the great battle. The helmet plate is stamped in two pieces. The Eagle is held to the helmet body with original leather wedges. Brass spike and base with domed retainers. . Beautiful helmet with fantastic Provenance.
Nice helmet with even patina 1813 X A K untouched and uncleaned .I like the 5 regiments with the Waterloo banner
