There has been a significant change in the article on one-year volunteers. It is worth reading as it changes or clarifies many of the misconceptions of uniform and equipment purchasing from units.

Attachment 2 to § 19 of „Heerordnung“
Uniform, food and equipment of one-year volunteers

Wernigk, Major and battalion commander in FAR 57
Handbook for OYV of the field artillery
11th edition, E S Mittler & Sohn, Berlin 1908

Uniform and equipment, horses, food and accomodation of OYVs

All this informationis extremely interesting....and CLARIFYING. Especially to a relatively new and inexperienced collector, this is invaluable information and helps avoid pitfalls and bad buying errors. I especially like the comment that helmets with extra holes are not all bad...Couldn't agree more. Thanks for this great info.

Thanks for the work you put into those articles. BTW, the diamonds of the cross on that Bavarian helmet appear inverted in the same way as on the recent Depaheg helmet (looks like a small cross on a large plate). Is the source of the picture known?

Robert,

That helmet is sitting in the back of my cabinet. There are more pictures here:

It will take me a while to pull it out. But maybe there is something very interesting here. I do not remember this to be fiber, but I do remember it was pretty beat up and extremely cheap.

Hey Joe.
Robert is right, that reserve cross looks to be a twin of the one we were unable to discuss, even down to the lower arm of the cross being off center, Is it possible you can tell how this is constructed?
Best wishes
Gus

This picture backs up some of the statements in the articles. A casual picture of a group of one-year volunteers. One guy in the group is wearing a helmet, which clearly looks-to me anyway-as having a thick front visor trim.
