ERN trench knife - should it be blued.

I bought an ERN Rasiermesserfabrik trench knife a while ago. It's a great piece and goes well with my other German trench knives.

I wonder if any of you knife/bayonet buffs could answer this one for me. As far as I know the blades of German bayonets in ww1 were not blued and trench knives were the same - the blades were polished steel. Later after the war I know that bayonets were blued for use by the Reichswehr.
However my the blade on my ERN knife seems to have been blued at some stage.

Does anyone know of this? Did bayonet trench knife manufacturers blue their blades in ww1 also?

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks,

Simon

Hello
I think blades have never been blueed in 14-18 only the scabbard
As far as I know, scabbards were enameled/lacquered, not blued. Knives and other blades were not blued till the twenties.

I never know blades could be blued,.. lol.
