Ersatz Metal Pickelhaube I’ve just won on Grenadier auctions...

Personally, I would like everyone to "cut Michael some slack" for our Euro members...."hold/stop judgement". Let's wait until he receives the helmet, has it in hand and can take additional photos. You know, I gut these helmets in my restorations, I take them apart.....disassemble them back to where they are just pieces. I have seen....hand made chin scales, hand made spike support discs, painted resin kokarden, painted kokarden made from beer can aluminum, glued visors, duo tang brass splints for spike brads, modern brass screws soldered on wappen, automotive filler used to fill in helmets, crazy glue prongs on any fitting that has prongs!!! :x :x So when I see something like this helmet which, yes is not a kit helmet (I have a perfect example), not a Gebr. Bing helme( I had one) nor like James' helmet which I also have in my collection. I look at this helmet, yes, it is different from previous examples, however, I do not see a "crude hand made piece". To my eye, this was machine manufactured. :) so what faker, except the Indians/Germans have "tooled up" for that?? With brass trim on both visors, it may be a converted fireman helmet??? :???: Last, we need the liner fingers pulled out and a shot of the liner band. Michael, we older collectors can be critical at this stage in our lives BUT not one of us hasn't screwed up and bought something bogus. James and I had an epiphany moment 2nd last SOS militaria show.....a legit Bavarian ALUMINIUM OFFICER HAUBE!!!!! WTF???? :-? I know he regrets not having bought it to this day. So Michael, our purpose here is to encourage younger less experienced collectors, please keep posting let's have a real close look at this helmet. I have taken flak here on the forum for numerous mistaken postings over the years, there are far more expert collectors here than myself. In truth, I leave the collector spats and back biting to other forums. So, you receive the helmet...lets go, post some photos. Game on as we Canucks say! :thumb up:
