Ersatz Pickelhaube issue

I would like to know if anyone knows if there is an established date or timeline when the Ersatz pickelhauben were issued. All I know is that it was early war.

Immediately. First helmets were probably contracted in August 1914. Even if you could obtain some contract dates, when the helmets actually arrived, would be very hard to pin down.

George: The German Army in the First World War, Uniforms and Equipment - 1914-1918 by Kraus indicates on page 66 that ersatz helmets were issued mainly between September 1914 and January 1915. Kraus also indicates that by March 1915 the demand for helmets had been met and the production of ersatz helmets ceased.

As always thanks for the terrific info. I am compiling a list for myself that I am using to help give plausible dates to photo's I have which are undated. Thanks a million!
