a rare ersatz helmet. A bit to restore and a great specimen in the collection

The visors do seem to be made out of Vulcan fiber. What do you suppose the dome is made of?

At first glance it looked like the flesh side was showing on the dome inner shell.

So I waved it off as a repo.

I believe that the dome is made of pressed paper or fiber, most likely paper mache.
Did you notice that the chin straps are riveted instead of sewn. Another sign of a rapidly manufactured Erzatz model.

John :)

My opinion....lacquered felt shell with V fibre visors. Note also the visor stitch spacing (wider) which is similar to an M15. The M95's have a finer stitching.

I saw that one too. It has that thin (fake leather?) liner, but I hope it was only on the wig head for photographing. That styro will kill stuff like that fast.

That's a very hard to find pickelhaube, made of papier maché (chopped cardboard or paper that's mixed with glue)...

Here's a link to a few other pickelhauben of this type: http://pickelhaubes.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9306" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hi !!
Plus one with Adler, cardboard for the helmet and presspan for the front visor and for the neck protection...
Best regards
Jean Paul

Well that certainly explains the colour of the shell inside and the wider spaced stitching. That is a rare survivor!

Went for around $600, near my bid, but y'never know. The winner may have bid $1,000+ or something, so that's why I put in the little I can afford at the mo' and let 'er go.
