Excellent, complete Hessian Dragoon “eigentum” EM helmet for either Garde-Dragoner-Regiment (1. Großherzoglich Hessisches) Nr.23 or Leib-Dragoner-Regiment (2. Großherzog Hessisches) Nr.24, the only two Hessian cavalry regiments. Very solid body with great form and firm stitching, symmetrical cruciform spike base and fluted spike unique to the Hessian regiments, and convex cavalry chinscales on screwposts. All silver-colored fittings, also unique to these two regiments. Excellent interior with intact liner and metal support plate under the spike base.
Officer-grade Hessian Wappen front plate with great detail and pierced crown. The crown has a nearly invisible reinforcement or repair, possibly where it was snipped off in the postwar revolutionary era (as was done in some cases) and then lovingly replaced when the dust settled. No extra holes. Beautiful Hessian kokarde with double red stripes on a non-serrated white base in the Hessian style. A very nice example, hard to upgrade.
