Experimental feuerwehr helmet

Hello, I wanted to introduce you to a rather interesting helmet. I don't have much information about him. It is a vulkanfiber helmet that was intended to replace the fireman's leather pickelhaube. It was experimented with in the early 1930s but the material proved unsuitable and light alloy steel helmets were introduced for the fire service in 1934. This particular model was for fire chiefs, the wappen and oak leaf comb were used on leather pickelhaube. If anyone has more information on this model please let me know.

A neat helmet indeed. The East Germans also tried to utilize this kind of vulkanfiber Feuerwehr helmet after 1945. Here is an example of an early DDR period FW vulkanfiber helmet made by veb Perfekt. Ludwig Baer discusses these FW helmets in the "Helmets of the German Fire Brigades" section of his book, "The History of the German Steel Helmet 1916-1945".

Hey SCHUPO,

I didn't know you were a member over here as well!

Thanks again for the assistance in identifying the early VOPO tunic over on the WAF forum last week.

Bryan.

Hi Bryan,

I am a new member here. I am learning more than I am able to give back. You are welcome for the info on the early Volkspolizei uniform.
