Has anyone ever seen an original felt Ersatz with sewn on M91 lug reinforcements?

I have somewhere, but I can not find a photo. That does not mean that the one I saw was good, or this one is bad. It is a logical reinforcement to an area that would be the weak point.

The German Army in the First World War, Uniforms and equipment -1914 to 1918 by Jurgen Kraus, page 68 has photographs of a felt helmet probe sample with felt re enforcements for the side lugs. An additional version is shown on Page 69.

I can easily believe your Baden, but something just does not look right on the Ebay helmet. I'm not interested in this helmet, just the curiosity of the reinforcements.

Obviously, each collector has to make their own decisions regarding bidding. I won't because of financial considerations at this time. However, personally, I do like this helme, especially the matching feldgrau colour on the fittings. Yes, there is some wear to the paint but over all they all match in colour which tells me everything is original. The shape of this piece might be throwing you off, the shell is more upright/vertical front and back but I have seen this before on leather helmets. Anyway, no problem, at least, we all know now that these do exist, they are original but rare. Mine came from a dealer here in Ontario Canada years ago.
