I recently bid a very low price on what was advertised as German WWI under wear on fleabay. I suspected that they were not original, and now believe that I was right. Here is the marking that was shown on the auction.
The seller in Bulgaria claimed to have found a warehouse with surplus items, I sispect he is right, but from when. Not show in the auction is another ink marking
It looks like this one was been blurred with solvent. I am not sure that is what was done, but if it was not something that would raise suspicions for a buyer, I would have expected it to have been shown in the auction. I can not read it for sure, but it looks like a date of 1985 or 1986.
I have seen the BAG 1914 marking before, perhaps on field dressings, and think that anything with this marking should be suspect.
