The worst thing is that this happens all the time here...

I find it incomprehensible that this is possible at an (online) auction house...

That's a terrible lesson to learn.

You can actually see the scratch marks from the Dremel tool on the shell. I followed the link and this guy shows up, please don't tell me he is the resident expert, and this was his appraisal value.



Funny a Schatting expert takes on a whole different meaning in English but in this case very appropriate.

In the Netherlands, the term "expert" is not protected, so to speak.
So anyone can call themselves an "expert"..

Most so-called "experts" at this online auction house are simply collectors who were once approached by Catawiki to see if they wanted a side job as an "expert" at Catawiki.
They do not actually see the items, but are offered online by the seller.
The text is also provided by the seller, as is the so-called sales price or estimate...

I was looking at that auction, there was also a Baden haube for sale there, advertised as an infantry M95, but it had no motto on the banner,
so not infantry at all.. suspect kokarden too.

Intentionally aged even on the inside. I don't see a lot of value to that except to decieve people.

In regards to the US Army artillery buck private's uniform he's posing with, I can't help but wonder why a discharged buck private is carrying a sidearm? It's also sad that the fellow had three years (Good Conduct Medal) with no rank advancement.

Maybe he was promoted to a 4 star general but slapped a soldier and got busted back down to buck private? It’s all possible…so the story goes.
