You are the expert on these Pete. It looks original to me but what is your opinion? The spike configuration strikes me as modelled after the Bavarians but like you I have never seen this before. Never even knew they existed. Some research would be needed on this one.
 
Looks like someone in the UK ruined what once was a perfectly nice sun helmet by adding all the polished/cleaned metal fittings and the modern era black cloth band and red piping to the helmet. :thumbsdown:

Just my two cents worth. It's interesting how the gray color cloth exterior has sun faded area on it near the viewer's right side of front plate. Compare that to the non-faded black cloth band and red piping that has been added in modern times.

Anyone know which country used a grey color sun helmet?

I think the helmet body is some police/paramilitary helmet - maybe Dutch or something. I don't think it is technically a "sun helmet" but rather a cork/felt helmet - and likely police.
