Feldgrau Schirmmutzes

Dave, those are just wonderful. Superb!! :love10: No holes on the Leib Husaren from the Totenkopf?

Uh, Tony, it's not a Leib-Husaren cap, it for the Leib-Garde-Husaren-Regt. :?

A new find at the SOS and a new installment for feldgrau visor caps. This is a private purchase Feldmutze for Magdeburgisches Husaren-Regt. Nr. 10. The pre-war colors would be a dark green top, dark pink (rose) band and yellow piping.

Interesting marking on the interior...I presume the cap was purchased privately using regimental funds

Gorgeous. If you can come back from a show with one killer cap like that, the trip was worth it.

Could it have been purchased at by the wearer at the officer's Verein at the Kaserne for Husaren regt Nr. 10 in Stendal?

Tony

Thanks for your comments. I'm pretty ignorant about the avenues for purchasing private purchase items. Does this mean that there was an "official" officer's store to buy his goods for a particular regiment?

That's how I would interpret the stamp Dave. I believe that for example, Die Deutscher Offizier-Verein although headquartered in Berlin, made these items available for purchase at the Kaserne for some regts. I doubt they had a stack of any one item, and would assume that it would be an on-site tailor shop that would take measurements etc and make the order. One-stop shopping as it were.........

Nice caps! Here are two from my collection.

* 25 th dragoner rgt Konigin Olga (Wurtemberg)

and most unusual...

* Hessian Jewish field chaplain

Great caps! ...And great addition to this thread. I'd love to see any more that you have. I love the chaplin/rabbi mutze. :D It appears that there is a darker shadow between the cockades. Can you tell whether there had been a cross there, or had it always omitted.

Regards

Dave

There is no shadow or hole between the cockades. It is precisely what makes the scarcity of this cap. The Catholic or Protestant field chaplains carried a silver cross between the cockades. Field rabbis didn't wear a badge between the cockades.

Best regards

And after all, the Catholic or Protestant field chaplains caps are so common. :^o

I have never seen any example of the field Padre's/Rabbi etc cap, except in photos. Absolutely wonderful. And the Dragoner cap is a superb example as well. :thumbright:

I may have to counter with a nice Feldgrau one on the 15th........

As promised. I can't post a photo of the entire cap here, as that unnecessary and very annoying re-size code will distort the photo. So here is a vertical photo that will actually fit.. More photos here >> http://www.kaisersbunker.com/feldgrau/headgear/fgch19.htm

Hi,

I would like to get back for a moment to that ink stamp in the 10.Husar cap. No one has said anything about the second word (abbreviation) in that stamp. To me, it looks like "ehm.", which says to me that this is not a marking that indicates anything about the cap's purchase. Ink stamps are not that common in officer's private purchase caps. I think this one indicates that this cap was once owned by a regimental veteran's association (former regimental members) and perhaps was on display at their meeting place. Any thoughts on this?

Chip;

I have seen and handled a couple of "veteran's" caps and they are night and day from the WW1 service caps as far as construction. This cap is a period, prior-to-1919 cap with a thin pressed paper ersatz visor and ersatz coated canvas sweatband.

Dave,

I am not saying this is a postwar cap at all. What I meant was that I think it was originally unmarked and then later stamped as the property of the veteran's association. That's all.

Another installment for feldgrau visor caps. This is a private purchase Feldmutze for 2. Rheinisches Husaren-Regt. Nr. 9. The pre-war colors would be a blue top, blue band and yellow piping. It seems the band is a little darker than I would have thought, but the piping was always yellow (vibrant and clean at the seams).

Something new. this is a M-1916 private purchase Feldmutze for 3. and 6. Chevauleger Regiments. The color is actually called "Pfirsichrot" (peach red), although it seems to look like a dusty "Karmesinrot" and the color of the visor is actually feldgrau. The interior markings indicate the cap was made in Passau, Bavaria (which is a nice touch).
