The outside of the busby may actually be cloth, not felt. It has a stitched joint/seam in the back and the front appears to have an overlapping joint similar to a leather Tschako.
The side posts are held on with 4 looong prongs and no inside discs. How would the posts keep from turning during use?
The post in the photo seems to have an odd stamping flaw on the outside, too.
How did the unfaded yellow bag stay put while the helmet was turned upside down for a photo of the liner?
Must've been stitched down--or the laundry got too much starch in it. Without hooks on top, how would the bag stay put during use?
The Johansson book shows metal field badges that appear to be dull zinc colored. This one looks like an aluminum police helmet badge.
The bandeau seems to be raw steel, rather than plated with zinc.
Does anyone know of a "thin-walled" busby in a museum or collection for comparison?
