He probably does not know that it is fake, they are very convincing. I bought the Prussian M15 version and I supposedly should have known better.

but... I wonder what it smells like? Probably pretty new. It would be interesting to find out, maybe it would fool me too! Road Trip!

Actually, Ron they do not smell new. They were made back in the 70's if memory serves, so no give away smell. There is a thread on them in the forum. The filz tschapka version produced by the same company is also for sale on Ebay right now.
 
One of the forum members is apparently planning to bid on the Tschapka.
His name is Ron and he's in Lebanon, according to his question on the auction. Pity his wallet if he "wins" the item.
