Filze like the First Time.

I havent seen a decent Artillery felt helmet on ebay before. What do you more informed Chaps think of this - 6602014963? :???:

I vot no two times as R1 and Tony noticed. The reinforced edge i felt is not right and the maker's mark (on the liner!) says _____&Co. Not German me thinks.

I do not like the fact that this helmet has a felt reenforced edge.

Mmm....I have to disagree with this. It is not common, but I have seen one very original Pickelhaube with this feature. I beleive it to be a specific feature to one or more small manufacturers. You can see a Filz Tschako with this same sewn edge pn page 113 in:

Seibold, W. & Schulz, M. (1999) Die Helme der Königlich Bayerischen Armee 1806 - 1918. Bayerischer Militar Verlag - Gerd M. Schulz, Gröbenzell.

And Joe, "_____&Co" is actually found on some German companies. I have a M15 haube makred with an & Co. Where is that thread on makers? T

Guy's I would not count this helmet out yet! IMO I would as for better photo's of the Kugel and base etc. and go from there. I think this one has possibilities.

James

Here is one of mine in a FAr M1915. I have another one made by the same maker here somewhere.

Also, see page 119 for another Ersatz Tschako from a similar maker and a Pickelhaube just like this on page 116 in:

Reiner, H. (2000) Militaerische kopfbedeckungen der kaiserzeit Motorbuch Verlag, Stuttgart.

Personally, I would like very much to get one with this exact sewn edge to have an example. But, if you check the 01 Feb update....... you will see that sadly I will not be bidding on this one.

Thanks to all of you guy's for all feedback on this one. A great help indeed but I think I'll back off on this. This fellas previous helmets seemed good though.

No-ones bidding yet!

Tony you are right on. There are felt borders on these now the hunt for the period photo.

Good question. We need a list posted somewhere this &co stuff is fascinating. Why? Verlag didn't make the registration? Fascinating.

I have a Baden version of this rolled rim filz helme. I think that this one is legit. Kaiser Bill saved the list of manufacturers I believe. Brian

I would be glad to post the list and examples. I'll need a LOT of help with pictures of examples but a gallery of makers marks makes immense sense. Look how far we have come on depot marks. So where is the list and I will begin.

Start the thread Joe and I will add a dozen or so photos of makers.

A SUGGESTION. Once Joe starts the thread, please do not add a posting with makers not on the list. PM Joe with the makers and then the single list at the beginning can be edited. Otherwise, we end up with a dozen lists in the same thread. T

I posted a list / article at
http://www.pickelhauben.net/articles/Helmet_Makers.htm

Tony thanks for the offer I need the help. There are huge amounts on the list. I will start a separate thread for comments.

Joe, Mikey, Tony:
Well done, this is exactly what we need! Joe, I presume that you have taken the existant list from the forum? Thanks again to Kaiser Bill for saving this before we had the "hacking episode". By the way, I have all of the collection photographed. I just have to wait for Margo to find time to load them on to the site. Brian

Great work Joe and Tony and Bill, this stuff is very interesting and I dont think exists in any books. Superb pictures!
Joe, how did you come by that particular 'Awes Marke' label? Thats from one of my helmets!
If you want additions I have an exeptionally good quality Prussian M15 EM helmet with a large oval stamp and the name 'Siberach-Riss', dated 1910(?).
I'm looking forward to seeing the new photo's Brian.

I got permission from the taker of the picture! I have yet another Awes mark. Red this time. Same sticker just red. Not sure of the significance of the color difference.

Yes! That's the point. Send them to me and I'll deconflict.

Well I'm chuffed to have one of mine in there!
Joe, this helmet has not the top quality liner. Nice, but the basic Officer style and with plain, un-faced visors. Maybe the red and blue labels signify a more deluxe grade of helmet?
