I'd like to see some period photos of it in use. I've never seen that before, not that I'm an expert in that area, but a nice article and front plate don't prove much without documentation... or am I missing seeing that? (Which wouldn't be the first time :P )

It seems more likely that someone stuck a spare plate on a fire helmet.
That same website had a really bad fake busby on it a while back, too, but they seem to have removed it after someone pointed it out to them.
 
Hey, It could be a Bavarian Navy fireman... I really do not think anyone would put the wrong Wappen on a helmet, gosh, what is this world comming to?

You're probably right Gus, the Bavarian Navy! Weren't they extremely small and only fought one battle in history and that was against the Swiss Navy?

It's all becoming clear now. Weren't they saved from a disasterous fire at sea by the timely arrival of... the Bavarian Naval Fire Brigade? :D
 
Isn't it amazing how a nicely presented format (web site) and catalog number lend an air of authenticity to this? Again, I'd need to see period reference photos before I'd believe it.
