Fittings VS. Markings mystery

I have been sitting on this mystery for a year now and I am finally getting around to posting some pics of this helmet. It was discussed before on the forum but never really got around to getting the pictures up. Also the same question was recently brought up in another post about markings that don't match the fittings.

here is the recent post:

So my helmet down below looks to be at first sight a 1. Garde-Landwehr-Regiment zu Fuß or a Garde Pioneer helmet but it doesn't contain the "supporting" markings to be one. Of course the ribbon/bandeau on the eagle should not be there but we all know that wasn't always the case, something I see a lot of on Baden reserve helmets all the time.

Now the marking inside tell a different story. Its a little hard to read but pictured below is the depot mark that reads "B.A. VIII" which is Armee-Korps (Coblenz). That would be incorrect for this helmet.

The makers mark and date "Helm Becker & Co" and "Elberfeld" with "1914"

So what exactly is this helmet? What was it "born" as originally? Below are some pictures showing that the hardware has not been tampered with as far as I can tell. Prongs on the back of the wappen seem to have not been moved and there are no extra holes in the helmet.

Any thoughts? What other wappen could fit into these helmet holes? and the silver fittings, what could it be? :-k

Look forward to hearing some comments!!

Hi Chris, a splendid helmet in out standing condition  !

when a Guard helmet is not marked after the BAG, usually that's not a Guard helmet.... but a Eisenbahn troop helmet

I've never seen any reserve or landwehr eisenbahn helmet.... but it could have existed, at least for reserve, ....

hope this helps,

Steve

I did not know that, I assumed that it would be marked as other Guard helmets since to my knowledge they all belonged to the Guard Corps(Berlin). Now doing a little digging through the books i find it all adds up!

Eisenbahn-Regt. Nr.2 (Hanau) XVIII Armee Korps actually. :thumbleft:

Thanks for nailing that down. Brass chin scales aslo, very interesting.

I´m glad to see that Tony and Stephane already had the same analysis.
As I wrote on the other thread, my opinion is ER2 or even ER3 (both in Hanau).
