Very nice piece of history with a huge potential. However, its not for me because I don't have the patience for this :D

I'm thinking of it... but want to think a bit longer. I'm a pretty good metalworker / restoration-ist.

Well,,,, seems it's more than interest that is at stake,,,, I should imagine it's more about affordability! For it will fetch as much as a fine example pair I would say. ...when madness kicks in.,. Well we shall see .

I won't be bidding either! Considering the time involved in a restoration and the chance that there's something structurally wrong with the helmet or plates that won't show up until the work begins (such as corrosion that's eaten through at a critical point), I think the bidding is already well beyond what I'd consider 'reasonable', or 'a bargain'.

12,550 euros!!! that is nearly £10,500!! To think I was looking at this and thinking I couldnt be sure the helmet wasnt an aged repo shell with original bits added.

You can say that again!!

O joy I love these price explosions on ebay! This is probably a nice illustration of bidding madness with 39 bids.

This is a 100% Original Garde guirassier set. Probably not in need of much restoration to bring it back to it's former glory.
I expected it to fetch quite a bit more!

I see that if you live near this seller you can look at the set. For me, I couldn't justify bidding that much without taking a closer look. It's very difficult to tell from the photos. But... I'd imagine a few people have 'stopped and looked' at the set.
