The only helmet I ever saw that type of spike on was a Bavarian with a cross base. There's a photo of one in the LaCarde book (Probably spelled his name wrong). I have one in my collection, but can't post a photo right now.

I would say the spike doesn't belong on that helmet.

That's probably it. There may be a smooth-spiked Bavarian helmet floating around somewhere.

A: Under magnification is appears like: "Rgt 180" in block and "68R" or "G8R" on the other side. Hard to tell for sure.
