Fluted spike, Garde plate, silver trim...

Second and third Bataillon, First Foot Guard Regiment. (The first Bn. and regimental staff wore a Semper Talis banner above the front plate after 1889.)

its too bad that some of the silver fittings aren't looking too silver anymore. Weitze has a minty one of these on the site with no price, you know what that means. 8-[

who wants to bet? a numbers game? how much will it go for? and let me add this helmet with all silver fittings in my opinion can easily be faked. why you ask? Silver fittings are not rare, you find them in many different combinations with "gold" fittings and on many different haubes. the fluted spiked is the most important piece on this helmet but doesn't seal the deal for me. officers helmets for the most part are a little iffy because of the lack of stamps.

I bet it will go for between 3K & 3.5K. With recent sales of crummy condition to so-so condition gilt fittings configured guard officer helmets now going for 2K to almost 2.5K (which are seen more often than the silver fittings guard helmets), it won't suprise me if this one goes easily over 3.

Yes, it's unfortunate that the officer helmets can be re-configured to more rare units by unscrupulous individuals. And if someone has a real "semper talis" banner, they could easily re-configure this helmet as well, to make it even more desireable.

officers helmets for the most part are a little iffy because of the lack of stamps.
Yes, officer helmets can certainly be prone to having parts changed on them. I've always greatly enjoyed enlisted helmets when they're unit marked. But then again, who doesn't? :)

What do you think about the extra holes in the plate behind the star and the star being soldered in place? :-k

The fluted piece is not interchangeable with a Bavarian officer's spike top, is it?

No I don't think they are interchangeable. Bavarian and Prussian look very similar at first glance but they do differ slightly in design. This spike looks more like a Bavarian fluted spike in my opinion.

I really not like the double holes on the wappen too...
And I am wondering about the handguard of the sword on the wappen. Should it not be straight for a guard regiment?????

Yes, I would agree.

It's unfortunate, but there will probably be two or more folks that fight over trying to win the bid on this one.

All the Best,

Alan
