Many BBC productions fail to mention the Canadians in their documentaries, they refer to British troops having captured Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele. In the old video series The Great War, there was no mention of the Canucks at all. What a joke! Without the Canucks, Aussies and Kiwis the Brits would have got nowhere after 1914. The Yanks of course really put the last nail in the Imperial coffin after 1917. Oddly, Canucks and Aussies did not get along, I have read many accounts of bar fights etc. Perhaps a bit of professional rivalry? Anyone wishing to read about the Cdn contribution in WW1 should look for Tim Cook's 2 volume work.....vol. 1, At The Sharp End, vol 2 Shock Troops.

In the last 10 years or so there has been a concerted effort on the part of the Brits to rehabilitate their reputation in World War I. Books with titles like "1918: A Very British Victory", books claiming the Somme battle was a British victory - all part of Haig's brilliant plan - etc. etc. . Makes me think the Brits had the situation well in hand and the rest of us Yanks and Empire troops might as well have stayed home.
