After wanting a Foreign Service Helmet for decades I actually managed to get two in the last three months. This one has doeskin as the cloth covering, and was likely an officer private purchase.

I really don't know if any of the Foreign Service Helmets were produced in Canada? I know these helmets were used in the summer in the Canadian Northwest, but where they were produced I don't know.

Doeskin is actually a misnomer. It is not actually leather, nor was it was from the skin of a deer. This was (according to a good source) just its nickname, but one that was well earned. It does seem very much like suede, but it is actually a wool. It was a finely napped, untwilled wool, real name of which was Melton. Some uniform tunics were also made from it.
 
A friend has a Canadian service version and is dated 1881 and is Broad Arrowed but i have to see where it is made .I know we made headgear here .Pillbox caps but i do not know of the White or Blue service helmet.
