Hi Gentlemen,

I would be very pleased if someone of you ( especially Glenn  ) could give me all possible informations about the identity and the whole military career of Freiherr Huber von Gleichenstein. This gentleman served in the LGR109 at least as an Oberleutnant.
I think he could have retired at the end of 1913....
Maybe a pict?

Thank you!

Philippe

Hello Philippe,

presumably Maximilian Freiherr Huber von Gleichenstein, born 4 October 1876 at Oberrottweil.

Entered LGR 109 as a Fahnenjunker on 15 July 1896 being promoted to Portepee-Fähnrich on 16 February 1897. Sekonde-Lieutenant on 18.10.97 and was assigned as Adjutant to Bezirkskommando Mosbach from 1 October 1904 to 30 September 1907. Oberleutnant on 18.2.08 and Hauptmann and Company Commander on 1.10.13. Prisoner of War at Carency as a battalion Leader on 9 May 1915 and subsequently interned in Switzerland. Major a.D.

Glenn, fantastic again!
Many thanks! I am thinking to purchase a fieldcap of this guy, with its golden name, crown and the interesting date 1.10.1913 at the inside. Now I know this date was important for him, as the date he has been promoted Hauptmann and Company Commander. The fact that I could not find him in the Ehrenrangliste 1914-18 is now clear: POW.
Do you know when he died?

Philippe

Hello Philippe,

he does appear in the Ehrenrangliste under LGR 109 on page 287. He was still alive in 1934 as he is listed in that year's edition of the Hamburg address book.

I will see if I can track a date of death down.

Glenn

Hello Glenn,

Uuups, yes, I found him now too....I first searched in the ERL 1914-18 under the name Gleichenstein and found nothing, because the name is listed under Huber von Gleichenstein. But in the previous ERL I checked that and forgot to have a look again in the ERL 1914-18

Yes, it would be great if you could find out a date of death down. It seems he lived then near the city of Hamburg? :o

Glenn,

Thank you again for the scan about Maximilian von Gleichenstein!
Last week and after a pretty long internet research, I was able to trace the nephew of this officer , Herr Marquard von Gleichenstein (born in Freiburg 1941), which is now living in Switzerland. A very symphatic and communicativ guy. He is owning a period pict of his uncle Maximilian that he will send me soon. Because he has recently moved, he had now to search in his cardboard boxes. Maximilian died 1934.
He told me his grandfather, Alfred von Gleichenstein (1864-1929)was a Hauptman too. He served during WWI in the 2. Landsturm Infanterie Bataillon 14/ XIV Bruchsal on the Elsass front. I think I also traced him in the 1902 ERL, at this time, an Oberleutnant der Landwehr, Bezirk Freiburg.
As soon as I will receive the pict of Maximilian, I will post a thread of it together with the Mütze.

Philippe

Philippe,

That is great news! I look forward to seeing the photograph. I must check out Alfred.

Like the Bassermann Jordan family, the von Gleichenstein family still are Gutsbesitzer and Weinbauer :!:

Glenn,

Thank you for that!
I think Herr Marquard will be very happy with all those informations about his grandfather. He is still owning the dogtag of his grandfather which is showing:
Hauptmann Frhr. von Gleichenstein 2. LDST J.B. BRUCHSAL 14/14

Best regards,
Philippe

OK Gents,

Now the mission is accomplished :D
Here are the results, 3 period picts of Hauptmann Maximilian Freiherr Huber von Gleichenstein.
The last one is showing this officer at the day of mobilisation with Grossherzog Friedrich II. von Baden taking his leave.
Enjoy!

Philippe

And last but not least, the dunkelblaue Mütze of this guy:

Phillippe,

there is an associate of mine on Flickr who is a collector of LGR 109. Do you have these pictures? Could you send me high density scans of them. My intent would be to send them to this collector. He would be shocked that you have the field cap. :thumb up: :thumb up: :thumb up:

Joe,

Sorry for delaying with my answer...There is again something wrong with the notifying of replies in my account there :(

I do not own the original picts...but I have high resolution scans (about 4000x5000).
Just feel free to pm me and give me your mail adress
