Hi Joe,
In front of a quarter here in Rio, exist this same model of tank, I will take some pictures, I didn't knew that is a rare thank.
Otto

if you cab get the pic big enough look to see if that track says amc on it.
then it would be US made .
A friend owned one of these converted to use as an ammo hauler for the gun tank.
It and ( I think) 1or2 more and parts came frrom up here in Ontario .
They are know part ( or were ) part of the Ropke collection ,sorry for any mis spelling of his name .
He removed a hull and turret from Meaford ranges and Borden Ranges.
For those who do not know why Canada had FT17 by AMC .We bought them as scap and used them to train our Armoured corps at the begining of WW2 .We have 1 in CFB Borden . Thats it.
The French Army had 3 U.S. and 4 French versions .
The Engine is the majour difference between the 2 tanks.

'Tis French made, and here are a few pictures. We visited the Patton Museum of Armor last Monday before returning from the SOS. The FT-18 (museum designation) was recovered in October 2002.

Hello Friends & Collectors,
Very cool article-West Point Military Museum in NY also has one of these on the bottom floor-even better yet its camo painted(same as German steel helmets)-King Weasel

Guys,

You will love this!

The only remaining German A7V tank 'MEPHISTO' is here in the Brisbane Museum. MEPHISTO was disabled during the Villers-Brettoneaux battle in April 1918. Some weeks later, soldiers of 26th Battalion AIF, accompanied by two Mk IV tanks, staged a night time raid and recovered Mephisto as a war trophy. Quite an amazing sight.

Of the twenty that were made, most were either destroyed during the war or scrapped during the depression.

Only Mephisto survived.

That is the only original as the German Governmemt ,ade one from plans and parts copied of that particular tank . This was done as to aquire piexes the Aussies need to replace missing or Broken ones.
Would be great to see that beast up close . I wonder if the German vehicle crews suffered the same level of casualties due to Carbon monoxide poisoning? or the French crews as well

If it wasn't for souvenier hunters, there would not be much left of WWI history.
Gus
ps, leave it to the Aussies to "one up" every story

It is really amazing where some of this stuff ends up. I wonder if the British tanks used in Palestine remained there after the war!

I have a German M-16 steel helmet that came from Afghanistan. These were used up until the 1970s! I still have to wonder how those ended up there!

Mephisto is really amazing. I guess you go down under to see rare tanks and to Chicago to see a U-Boat (WWII vintage however).

I have an M-18 that came from the same junkyard that the French tanks were found. There seems to be a lot of ersatz bayonets coming out of Afghanistan too.

It has been said to me by Veterans of WW1 and WW2 the Brittish fought for king and country the Canucks fought for King and Souvineers.
If you have more pics of the AFV7 it would be nice to see some.Mark

Somewhere I have a picture of America's souvenired A7V. It resided at Aberdeen Proving Grounds until WWII, when it was scrapped!

About twenty years ago, a local collector and curator of our WWI national museum was in Canada making arrangements to ship two light Minenwerfer from a private collection to the museum. I believe it was on that trip that he discovered that there were two FT17s at an abandoned military shooting range. He was able to procure both, bring them here and from the parts of the two he has been able to reconstruct one tank (no engine). The only running example I know of is that of Hayes Otoupalik in Missoula, Montana.

There used to be one sitting in front of the Alexandria Virginia Train Station. I'll have to check and see if it's still there.

We still have a Whippet in Camp Borden as well as a renault . The Whippet was pulled off the MG Range in the 1960's . Looks like it was on an artillery test. a few holes in upper plate.
These are in Camp Borden ,This is the home of the Royal Canadian Aroured Corps. The Picture was taken by somebody from the Ontario Regiment 1938-1939 These are all FT117 By AMC.

As Mark knows, Barrie is only 20 min drive from Base Borden. I used to take Grd 10 History students out there to tour the museum and the tank park. It is a real shame , that the whippet has been left outside to survive the elements all of these years. The museum has been expanded over the last couple of years and I have not been out there for some time. I will try to go and get some pics. There are some interesting WW2 German armoured vehicles there as well.
