Does the tip of the spike seem oddly shaped?
And with the Perlring, why is the cone so short and lacking the decorative lines near the bottom edge?

The top of the spine seems oddly shaped indeed. It appears that it was passed through a pencil sharpner :D Furthermore, it would be informative to have a look at the back of the plate.

My thought is the tip looks odd because the sweep or profile of the spike is a bit flat. I'd not only like to see the back of the plate, but the inside of the spike. I'd imagine the latter may have been doctored in some way to fit the base... it doesn't seem to quite work, does it.
