Garde du Corps at parade

Very impressive….can’t imagine walking in those huge kurassier boots thought! Thanks for posting Sandy.

I know, but seeing a parade of 100 GdC soldiers, Uhlans or Hussars on their horses marching by on horseback was definitely impressive.

What a great photo !
Thanks for posting.
The first time that I have seen the G d C Standarte Trager wearing
2 ringkragen ; 1 for the flag ; the other the G d C ringkragen
also the entire Standarte draped over his shoulder

That's because it was going to rain. Watch the sky...

All flags had an oil cloth foul weather cover.
If the weather was bad, they were to keep the flag
inside the cover.
I have 2 or 3 of these covers in my collection.

Now that I think about it for a few minutes.
The G d C Standarte is a very different shape
than all the other flags , both Infantry and Cavalry
I am not sure what type of foul weather cover
they could have used ?
That flag could not be rolled

I was kidding, Steve, but thank you for the interesting complementary information I was not at all aware of. I was only wondering what it could be like to carry a soaking wet flag of this size!

Talking of foul weather, I wonder why only miters, although not worn on the battlefield, could be protected with an oilcloth cover. Think of heavy rain and resulting damage to leather spike helmets and Tschapkas, let alone busbies!...

The cap of the foul weather cover in a brass / gilt color carries the same emblem as the pole top .
In other words I have the foul weather cover that came with my 2 Garde Regt zu Fuss / I Batl flag.
The pole top is an 1813 Iron Cross, so the foul weather cover cap has 1/2 of an 1813 Iron Cross on it
and so on down the line for the Prussian units
1870 I C pole top = 1/2 of an 1870 I C on the foul weather cap
newer regiments that were not in Franco-Prussian war had a cypher top

After 52 years of collecting, I should have something to show for it !
