Folks,

This cuirass would be for a pre 1912 officer which was before the trophy was awarded and worn on the cuirass.

Enjoy!

John

That’s cRaZy! Even if a person could afford those pieces, finding them is next to impossible. Especially in that condition. Way to go John. Looking forward to seeing them.

John,
Thank you for sharing this outstanding group from way back in the day. Can you or someone explain what you mean by the cuirass being pre 1912 officer because a trophy isn’t on the cuirass?
Thanks
John

All,

I thank you very much for the kind words. It brings me great joy to share with you my collection and to know you enjoy them as much as I do.

John,

In 1912 the Kaiser awarded the GdK regiment a battle honors trophy. This meant that both officers and enlisted men would affix this trophy to the front of their cuirass as a symbol of honor. Prior to 1912 though, no trophy would be found on GdK cuirasses.

Thank you, do you have a picture of one mounted on a cuirasses?

Here you can see a cuirass of the Garde du Corps post 1912:
Cuirass GdC post 1912
The was a brass plate with the royal cypher of Frederick II (the Great) surrounded by a crown, as well as the standards, kettledrums, swords and the name of the Emperor on a band with the dates 1712 and 1912. It was screwed onto the breast of the cuirass or worn on s chain, as a necklace.
