Looks like an issue helmet. The description--a very lengthy one--is puzzling.

I wrote most of it. He has "harvested" text from my site and others, but completely missed the mark. I am surprised he does not describe a parade plume or Jäger...

So the description is to a large extend plagiarism and the seller did not understand a bit of it despite his research!
Anyway it seems an ordinary EM helmet to me and its definately not an officers helmet.

Kind regards,

Edwin

I sent the seller a nice information message. Here is the answer posted on ebay:

Out of respect for those that message me, I had one individual email me some information in regard to this helmet. I can neither confirm nor deny the truth of their statements because of my research. However, I will let you know what was stated... This individual stated that the Garde star is a common enlisted model. He also stated that this is not a private purchase or officers helmet. The research that I have done suggest otherwise. I have read numerous web sites with exact images and I have stated on my description what I have learned. I do understand many components and stamps on the helmet mean different things. But I have not seen any helmets with this eagle and this particular Wappen, unless they were an officer. I have seen the rank system and it also shows that this was an officer. The visor was not regular issue and was that of private purchase because of its rounded design. I read that JR means infantry but the individual stated that JR126 stamp is a line regiment from Wurtemberg. It was also stated in reference to holes behind the plate on the helmet. I did look behind plate and there are two holes. Nothing looks modified at all or represent any later addition. I still stand firm on my description. However, do your research before bidding. Thank you.

Tony (and others), you should send him a note too...

Just contacted the seller and I am awaiting his reply, which I will post as soon as received.

I expressed my concern about several issues relating to this auction and I primarly focussed on the spike, its neck and base. Here is the answer of the seller. However, he only partially addressed the issues raised by me.

Thank you for the information. Yes I have found that typically the spike has the pearls at the bottom, but I have also found that this may have been a private purchase. I also found a rank structure photo of the plates, eagles and wappen (front plate). It clearly shows the following..."Rank: Garde-Adier Offizier bei Mannschaft Stern Ganz Neusilber". I am only going by what I read. Let the experts who want this piece decide for themselves. I am by no means an expert, but have stated only what I have read from other collectors. Agian, thank you. I have posted your statement on the auction.

Regards,

Edwin

Doesn't look like my reply to this stuck yesterday... To me, it doesn't look like the wappen fits (or belongs on) the helmet at all and that the guard star is very worn or a repro (probably the former). As far as the seller goes, he either wants people to think he knows what he's talking about and wants the helmet to be something it isn't or is digging himself some time in purgatory (and copying from carefully prepared and thoroughly researched sites to support wrong conclusions doesn't exactly endear him to anybody here). [-X At any rate, nice old shell, but who knows what's been added or taken off over the years.

My two pence.

:D Ron

Did he just add this in red lettering? I don't remember seeing it before:

NOTE: PLEASE READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY, EVEN IF YOU KNOW ALL THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT THESE HELMETS. IF I SAID SOMETHING WRONG, PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL ADJUST. THIS INFORMATION WAS DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN, BUT I LEARNED A LOT ABOUT THE GERMAN IMPERIAL ARMY, JUST FROM ONE HELMET. THESE HELMETS TRULY TELL STORIES. MUCH OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS AQUIRED ON SERIOUS COLLECTOR WEBSITES. THANK YOU. I MUST SAY THAT THIS HELMET, WHETHER IT SELLS OR NOT, HAS BEEN EXTREMELY INTERESTING TO RESEARCH, BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT I DO BEFORE I SELL AN ITEM, I RESEARCH. I BOUGHT THIS WONDERFUL FIND FROM A VERY YOUNG MAN WHO IS HAVING HIS FIRST BABY. PART OF THE FINAL VALUE WILL BE GIFTED TO THIS INDIVIDUAL FOR SELLING THIS HELMET TO ME (HE DOES NOT KNOW). HE ALSO PROVIDED A FEW MORE ITEMS THAT I BELIEVE BELONGED TO THE INDIVIDUAL THAT WORE THIS HELMET (A SWORD BAYONET, KNIFE BAYONET, AND AN AMMUNTION POUCH. I ALSO OBTAINED THE GI’S UNIFORM THAT MAY HAVE EITHER DETAINED OR KILLED THIS IMPERIAL SOLDIER. PLEASE KNOW THAT YES… THIS HELMET IS 100% AUTHENTIC AND ORIGINAL. IT EVEN HAS THAT OLD SMELL OF BEING STUFFED IN THE ARMY FOOTLOCKER FOR OVER 60 YEARS. PLEASE BE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT YOU WANT THIS BECAUSE THERE ARE NO REFUNDS ON THIS ITEM. I DO NOT WANT IT NOR DO I COLLECT THESE TYPE OF ITEMS. I HOPE YOU AND OTHERS CAN ENJOY THIS MONUMENTAL PIECE OF HISTORY. I ALSO RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL THE AUCTION AT ANY TIME, TO INCLUDE YOUR PURCHASE, EVEN AFTER THE AUCTION. PAST EXPERIENCES, UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, REQUIRE ME TO SAY THAT. IN ANY EVENT, IF DECIDED TO CANCEL THE SALE, YOU WILL GET A FULL REFUND. I DON'T FORSEE THAT, BUT I HAD TO SAY THAT. SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY. ALL QUESTIONS WILL BE POSTED TO THIS AUCTION AT THE BOTTOM. THIS AUCTION WILL BE PRIVATE. I WILL START THE BIDDING AT $.01 TO GIVE EVERYONE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE. PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME HOW TO PACK THE ITEM. OFFERS TO END EARLY ARE WELCOMED.
