Just acquired from a fellow member. In excellent condition, apart from some denting/ creasing on the top left of the skull which I can live with. I have given it a very light clean. Photos taken in artificial light so may have a yellow cast.
The impressive two piece wappen, which is attached by screw posts with flat nuts, retains vestiges of frosting to the eagle.The spike unscrews and the cockades are correct for an Unteroffizier mit Portepee. Officer type liner is present but fragile. There is nothing to indicate which of a number of the Garde units which had neusilber fittings this might belong to. It did come with a handwritten post card of 1914 with a picture of a Garde pioneer on the front and an almost obliterated Garde pioneer post mark, but there is no evidence to show that the two items have the same provenance. I attach photos of the card below- I can read German reasonably well, but this script defeats me. Any help welcome!
I may be whistling in the wind, but I would like to get a set of the brass chinscales worn with this helmet in dress uniform. Any ideas of possible sources?
