so I would be careful on this one, chinscales are brass and should be tombac, does not have the maker mark in top of shell like it should. Also, look at the second letter on back visor, different size then the rest... I believe this is a M89 Prussian helmet redone to look look Saxon GRR.

I know the seller, he is a good guy, and I do not think he knows.

It looks like an amalgamation of parts. The cockades don't look right and the chin scales are improper for the lugs. The spike base being misshaped in comparison to the rest of the helmet doesn't make sense either. I could certainly see how someone could overlook those things, though.

In my opinion also composed of (original) parts (perhaps the body of a private KR6, which, like so many others, have been transformed into "exciting helmets such as GdC and GR/KR...")
The helmet crest also deviates on all sides.
I have never seen the marking on the outside on a helmet before...
For me, this helmet is an absolute "no go".

I wondered about the stamping as well. It's those little things that make one look for more issues. Some of you noticed things I hadn't. He's had the helmet for 45 years. There were no good reference books back then and true experts were few and far between.
In reference to 2nd.Liebhusar's comment about being composed of original parts, I think this was done quite often by collectors and dealers alike, not to mention the post-WWI tourist market in Europe.

Good points from everyone. To me, it also looks like the distinctive Saxon EM rear spine ridge has been attached externally, and has a little hole next to it (which both seem wrong).

Here are the photos as an eBay link will go dead at some point. At best it seems to be a parts helmet, which certainly has value as the parts overall are original. Would be a decent filler Garde Reiter Parts Metalhelm for someone that doesn’t want to spend €10K.

I have empathy for the seller, it’s a terrible discovery when you find out something is not quite what you thought it was. My ex-wife for example……

Well, thanks to this site, I learned that my GdK officer to parade was a parts helmet, so since it wasn't easy to care for, I sold it to a reputable dealer who had a buyer. Even as a compilation of original parts, I more than doubled what I paid for it in the 1980's. So, I broke even. (and bought more helmets!)
